Description

Observed and imaged Jupiter for the first time in 2020 on the night of June 12/13, 2020. This was an unplanned bonus to a late night wide field imaging session. When I went outside to pack in the refractor, I noticed Jupiter and Saturn had just cleared the trees. Rather than call it a night I decided to pull out the C8 and grab a few captures of Jupiter and Saturn. Lucky me the GRS was just coming into view and Io and Europa were withing the field of view. Not as many frames as I like to get, but I needed a large ROI to get the moons in the frame. These are a little rough as I had not acclimated the C8 to outside temperatures nor collimated the scope since the past Venus campaign, but decent seeing was on my side for once...

Imaged with a C8 Evo, ZWO ADC, Baader UV-IR Cut filters, and ZWO ASI224MC. Imaging train was configured to give ~F/20. Image capture using Firecapture (see below for capture settings). Stacking in AutoStakkert3 (typically best 25% of ~5000 frames captured over 180 seconds). Color balancing and Wavelet sharpening in Registax6. Image reoriented to planetary frame in WinJUPOS.

Capture settings:

ROI=1024x768

FPS (avg.)=30

Shutter=9.500ms

Gain=275 (45%)

Histogramm=59%
